BUBBLE

About the work

Bubble is a sculptural piece made from the artist’s own biodegradable bioplastic formula. Encased within its translucent cocoon-like form is a living microorganism suspended in agar agar, alongside a fragment of tree bark—an encounter between the microscopic and the terrestrial. A delicate thread of light travels through the piece and trails onto the floor, suggesting both connection and continuity. The work reflects on cycles of transformation, containment, and the fragile boundaries between what grows, decays, and endures.

Sabrina Merayo Nuñez is an artist working at the intersection of material experimentation, ecological thinking, and historical research. Rooted in Tierra del Fuego and based in New York, her work emerges from a deep investigation into biodegradable bioplastics, regenerative systems, and the agency of organic matter. With a background in art restoration, traditional woodworking, and the conceptual study of art and design history, she weaves together tactile knowledge and speculative inquiry. Her practice often involves co-creating with non-human forces and embracing natural unpredictability as a method. Sabrina regularly leads workshops on biomaterial fabrication at universities and cultural institutions. Sabrina Merayo Nuñez’s work has been exhibited internationally at leading art and design events, including the Islamic Arts Biennale in Jeddah, Collectible Fair in Brussels, Milan Design Week, and Material Matters Fair at the London Design Festival. Her pieces have also been shown in United States at the The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, New York Latin American Art Triennale, New York Design Festival, The Clemente Center, Among Others,
